I installed Portableapps.com Platform onto a USB flash drive, and I can use the programs in the platform. But, I keep getting the External Exception C0000006. error message. How can I fix that? Thanks.
https://portableapps.com/manuals/PortableApps.comLauncher/intro/quicksta... claims that "To use the PortableApps.com Launcher, you will need to download and install NSIS Portable (the Unicode variant)".
But NSIS Portable no longer has variants. There's only one program now.
So please remove that claim (in the offline version too).
Also see about whether it needs NSIS Portable at all.
The former has "Proven NSIS installer core" and the latter has "Proven NSIS core bundled inside".
Does it mean it's no longer necessary to also download NSIS and put it in a folder next to them?
Installer has no manual but Launcher has https://portableapps.com/manuals/PortableApps.comLauncher/intro/quicksta... which states "To use the PortableApps.com Launcher, you will need to download and install NSIS Portable (the Unicode variant).
I installed the Portableapps.com platform on a Windows 10 desktop. When I exit the platform, I am getting a "The following portable apps are still running" error message. But, these apps are already closed, and I don't see them in Windows 10's taskbar and the system tray. When I open the Windows 10's Task manager, I see that the apps are in the "Background processes", and I have to kill them there before I can close Portableapps.com platform.
What's going on and how can I fix that? Thanks.
Platform ver. 14.4.1
I tested using a custom code in an application and found that:
The Platform alway return a false value for the environment variable %PAL:_IgnoreLanguage% regardless the option of "Use this language for all portable apps" in the platform is tick or not. Same result if the platform is restarted after changing the option.
However in "..\PortableApps.com\Data\PortableAppsMenu.ini""Localization" section, the key "DisableAppLanguageSwitching" does give a correct value.
I also found that some applications can not get the platform language. The platform return an empty language string. At the moment I can't remember which applications, I will report back later.
I have set up my portable apps platform one one PC. When I copy the whole portable apps directory to another PC the categories are not the same and some apps are not registered.
For example I have a "stability" category on PC1 which is not shown when I run portable apps platform on PC2.
Also I have "FixWin" at C:/portable apps/portable apps/Fixwin/fixwin.exe on pc1 which IS registered on the platform;
When I copy the top level poratble apps directory to D:/downloads on PC2
I have "FixWin" at D:/downloads/portable apps/portable apps/Fixwin/fixwin.exe
but this does not show on the platform, even after running update apps.
My bad; shortcut on PC2 was to the wrong directory - now fixed so working as expectd.
Hello,
Downloaded and Installed the "Portable apps Platform" 14.4.1 on a memory usb stick.
After installation finished, I did not select any program to install, Downloaded the "LibreOffice 5.4.1 Multi",
from the platform menu selected to install a new app - "LibreOffice" from the downloaded file.
After long installing time it was finished. Did not do anything with the installed program, wanted to eject the usb
stick - could not, it said searching for update, waited for almost an hour and still refused to eject the memory stick.
In system's task manager I clicked on "End task", only then the icon in the taskbar gone.
What is wrong ?
OS is win 10 pro

Hi,
I installed some apps as standalone and recently installed the PortableApps platform thinking it would autodetect the installed apps so that I could update etc. But is there a way to include them into the Platform, or is the only way to delete them all and then reinstall from scratch??.
Hello,
Made some experiment with “LibreOffice portable”. I did not install it (on the hard disk), just unzipped it
into a folder, sent one shortcut to the desktop, and so far it works nicely.
Am I missing something if I had installed it as any other program ?
Answers will be appreciated.
Thanks

Hye everybody
I have fought with this error for one hour now :
"Freeplane portable did not close properly last time it was run and will now clean up. Please then start FreePlane Portable again manually."
I know this is an old story, already mentioned in an item that has been definitely closed (https://portableapps.com/node/28953)
item that points itself to the documentation : https://portableapps.com/support/portable_app#didnotcloseproperly
Now I am just stuck there : FreePlane just does not start anymore, whatever I can do : unistall, reinstall, reboot the Windows PC, ...
My problem is that I have been using FreePlane for more than 2 years now, putting there all the daily notes I take at work.
I really need to have FreePlane run again in order to recover all my notes.
What should I do according to you ?
Many thanks in advance
Hi all,
Thank you for the wonderful site, forum and resources for all these years.
I searched the forum and read many threads about Drive-Letter Variable Settings. So that when a USB memory stick or other device is given a new drive letter on a new computer, the Portableapps.com launcher's apps paths point to it.
I saw various responses from 2008 onwards:
Relative paths
.bat files
Total Commander variables
other methods
But really the app should have this as a setting. So when launched on a new computer, there should be a button next to options or anywhere on panel:
"Change Drive Letter"
Then a drop down menu or text-input-box lets one choose the new drive letter the memory stick or whatever device has been assigned on the new computer.
Then it should remap all apps' paths to the new drive letter.
This should not be hard. On initial install instead of hard-assigning drive letter, say C: (for C:/PortableApps), it can assign all paths to a variable which in an ini file can be set to C: or D: or whatever it installed initially.
Then on another computer it can be reset by the user as an option to a new Drive-Letter, say G: H: Z: or whatever the new computer assigned the portable device as.
If this functionality or setting is already there please let me know. I searched quite a while online and in settings too.
Please do not tell me to use .bat files or relative paths or other methods. This is a feature request from the devs and please lets stay on topic. I really think this should have been done years ago.
Thanks again for al the wonderful work and services for years.
I was having a problem with not being able to install things because my USB was "too full" yet I had used 6 of 16gb. I looked into what was taking up the space using WizTree, and found that there was a hidden folder called "content" taking up all but 12mb of my drive. I ended up deleting it, and I could install stuff, but what is this folder, and what is it meant for?
Is there anything I can do about this ?
Can't seem to find any information on how to use PortableApps with the Cloud as my app storage.
Not that I ever have much luck finding anything that I need... I guess it's just me.
Thanks in advance for any help on this subject.
The PortableApps.com Updater or App Directory is already running. This could be the PortableApps.com Platform automatically checking for updates on startup. Please wait for other instances to finish before starting another.
What can I do to run the PortableApps.com Updater ?
There was a news article that ASLR is not used correctly in Windows 8 and 10, and to have ASLR you have to Force ASLR for all .exe's. https://it.slashdot.org/story/17/11/17/207239/windows-8-and-later-fail-t... - Forcing ASLR breaks all portableapps apps causing them not to run with error code 7B. The apps work if I download them from their web sites and run without portableapps. It might be worth looking at and fixing considering the problem Windows 8 and 10 have, as right now you have to choose between running securely *or* using portableapps, you can't have both afaik. (I searched and saw other topics on ASLR but this seemed to warrant a separate thread.)
I use (among others) Thunderbird and Firefox from PortableApps.
I pinned the start executable (e.g. ThunderbirdPortable.exe) to my Windows 7 TaskBar.
However when I click on it a second Icon appears on TaskBar. I guess its the actual target Thunderbird.
"Normally" (for other programs) the first icon remains the only icon representing the running program.
Is there a way to handle PortableApps programs in the same way?
I want only ONE icon in TaskBar after start.
Can I somehow avoid a click on ThunderbirdPortable.exe and start target Thunderbird.exe directly (with cmdline parameters)?
Hi, I have a problem with sw installation and upgrade, Portable tells me about a problem with Proxy, Network or Server that no allow download file, I don't understand how to solve the problem, Can you help me?

hello,
we are using the Firefox portable version 52.2.0. We aim to disable the update because we want to keep working on this same version(52.2.0). So,we have removed the executable "updater.exe" . Could this solution impacts the fonctionallity of the portable version?
